Attendees will not only learn about practical techniques for monitoring, risk stratification, and timely interventions, but also witness their application in real-world case discussions. These discussions, supported by evidence-based guidelines, will equip you with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions in patient management. What Will You Learn?

  • By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Define intra-abdominal pressure (IAP), intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH), and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS), and explain their clinical thresholds and significance.
  • Describe the physiological impact of elevated IAP across organ systems and recognize the cascade of dysfunction it may trigger.
  • Identify common medical and surgical etiologies contributing to IAH and evaluate patient risk factors.
  • Apply appropriate techniques for monitoring IAP, including indirect and direct methods, and integrate pressure assessments into critical care protocols.
  • Implement both non-surgical and surgical management strategies for IAH and ACS, with emphasis on early intervention and outcome-based practices

I think there was a lot of stuttering and sometimes some misspoken information, like a decrease in blood flow to the brain leads to an increase in IAP. This course was probably too advanced for me, but still informative. You never know when the information comes in handy.

Yes. A little advanced as I worked in the ED, opposed to the ICU, but very informative

I don't know why but I had so much trouble trying to watch the class. I was exhausted and suddenly fell as sleep about 2/3 of the way through. I had to watch the replay. The speaker was excellent he did a wonderful job but in my opinion was too thorough for 1 hour. The class seemed to lean towards nurses that have experience with this condition even if they don't see it often. It was an excellent review as well as an excellent refresher.
